June 2024 Month of the Yang Metal Horse

May 30, 2024 Helen Keating

Geng Wu 庚午

The month of the Yang Metal Horse (5 June - 5 July) is the peak of the Summer season. The Horse is a Yang Fire element (high, celebratory energy) with hidden branches of Yin Fire and Yin Earth. The Yang Fire element of the Horse dominates the Yang Metal (weaponry) Stem energy. The Metal Horse is naturally enthusiastic, ambitious, innovative, brave, and loves a challenge. While the Yang Metal/Iron Horse has plenty of energy, it is also methodical as a problem solver. The behind-the-scenes solutions that are being hammered out this month will likely show up later in the month or later in the year, with significant changes on the horizon.

If you have Horse in your chart, this is a Self Penalty month for you. Be mindful of self-destructive attitudes and practices. Self-sabotage can present in many ways, including self-doubt, negative self-speak, and procrastination. Depending upon where Horse is in your chart, this can manifest in your network (year), career (month), personal (day), or your output/what you oversee (hour).

If you have Rat in your chart, or your Day Master is Yang Water/Ren, this is a Clash month for you, which means there could be challenges ahead with changes/transitions in your life.

If you have Goat in your chart, or your Day Master is Yin Metal/Xin, this forms a 6 Combination that will help you over bumps in the road.

If you have Snake, Rooster, or Ox in your chart, the Flower of Romance Star arrives to enhance your charm/charisma, along with your social and romantic life.

If you have Yin Metal/Xin in your Day Master or Year ending in 1, this is a Nobleman Month for you, which can manifest as helpful people and fruitful opportunities.

Snake Month Feng Shui

April 30, 2024 Helen Keating

May Flying Stars (Xuan Kong)

The central energy of May/Snake Month is that of Yang Wood hosting Earth in a controlling relationship. In this case, it indicates control of future wealth and the matriarch/wife/elder females. There could be a tendency this month for adult children to make decisions for their elderly mothers. It’s also a good month to be more mindful about long-term investments.

The most supportive direction/sector this month is the Southwest. It supports the eldest female of the household, and it’s a good direction to travel for work. It’s the most supportive area of the home or office for any activities that will generate wealth or the modification of past investments.

The least supportive direction/sector this month is the Northeast, which hosts the 5 Yellow Misfortune Star, a “damp earth” element that’s hosted by an Earth Element Palace. This exacerbates the negative energy of the 5 Yellow, which can bring catastrophic events. The Annual 6 Metal will drain some of the energy but not enough to mitigate it. Avoid activating this area. If your bedroom or front door is in this sector, add a plant to help mitigate the energy.

This is a “universal” assessment and does not take into consideration the natal chart of your building. If you want a personalized audit of your building, please reach out to me HERE.

May 2024 Month of Yin Earth Snake

April 30, 2024 Helen Keating

Ji Si 己巳

May 5 - June 4 is the Month of the Yin Earth Snake (Ji Si 己巳). Snake sits in the SE3 direction, which is a Yin Wood element. Snake is a Yin Fire element and Wood creates/nurtures Fire but is in a destructive relationship with the Earth element of the month, so it could create a little underlying tension. Overall, Yin Earth is like fertile land and Yin Fire (Snake) is reserved and determined, but cautious. It supports a strategic, contemplative approach. The Snake month is compatible with the Dragon year, so with the Snake’s more reserved approach we will see some relief from the crazy energy of last month.

If you have Monkey & Rooster in your chart, they form a powerful Combination that will assist you this month.

If you have Monkey & Tiger in your chart, they will form a Fire Penalty with Snake. It’s advisable to pay close attention to your relationships and health.

If you have Pig in your chart, you will be affected by a Clash, which often leads to change.

If you have Yin Water or Yang Water in your chart or were born in a year ending with a 2 or 3, this is a Nobleman month for you. You’ll have helpful people to assist you in your needs.

Spiral Staircases

April 8, 2024 Helen Keating

While spiral staircases are sometimes used in tight spaces or to achieve a specific aesthetic, there are real reasons to avoid them, particularly if they are in the center of a house.

According to the premises of Feng Shui, they are known to energetically produce a whirlpool effect, draining the qi from the house or sector they occupy. The corkscrew shape is harsh and pierces the energy of the sector that they occupy, negatively affecting that sector. If located in the center of the house, it literally ‘pierces the heart’ of the house. If located near the primary entrance, the entering qi is captured by the staircase and rapidly runs up and down the staircase then back out the entrance. Wherever there is curved architecture, the Qi cannot rest or be slowed to a comfortable pace. It just gathers speed, moving around and around creating yang energy that never settles.

Small-diameter spiral staircases characteristically have steeper risers with pie-shaped treads, which are narrower on one side. This makes navigating them more difficult and hazardous (particularly going down), for children and adults with mobility and balance issues due to diminished visibility and small tread surface on the inside curve. Because of the nature of the corkscrew, there’s diminished headroom so taller people tend to hit their heads on the stairs above them. Unless it’s in a corner, a free-standing/floating spiral staircase tends to chop up a space and it is an awkward barrier to navigate.

Moving bulky furnishings and boxes up or down a spiral staircase is often difficult, unsafe, or untenable due to the diminished width and angle of the steps.

Because some spiral staircases don’t meet code standards for stairs, they are not permitted for primary access and egress between floors, so the outside diameter of the staircase must be enlarged to meet code standards. This can require a larger footprint/square footage than a standard multi-level straight staircase. Of course, this can be done where there is ample overall square footage, but it’s awkward for smaller spaces.

There are ways to help mitigate the energetic flow of curved/spiral/circular staircases but I’ve had mixed results. Nonetheless, if you have a curved staircase, you can add up-lights along the outside of the treads that direct the Qi up. You could also try adding an earth element, such as crystals or earthenware pots on the inside curve of the stairs. Another way to slow the Qi flow would be to add art or sconces along the walls of the stairway.

April 2024 - Yang Earth Dragon Month

March 30, 2024 Helen Keating

Yang Earth Dragon is 3rd month of the Yang Wood Dragon year. The double Dragon forms a Penalty that affects self-confidence and can indicate self-sabotage. The Earth Dragon is stable, powerful, protective, and selective. Yang Earth is dense and immovable, mimicking a mountain. Overall, the combination of the Earth Month and Wood Year elements indicates tension as Wood controls Earth. These two yang elements form very powerful energy…Yang Earth is generally considered immovable, while Yang Wood is characterized by the energy of unyielding growth (tree). So, metaphorically, we have a conflict of growth vs stability, with growth having the edge.

There are two significant celestial events this month: Mercury will be in retrograde April 1-25. A Solar Eclipse occurs on April 8. Some Masters recommend staying indoors during a solar eclipse.

If you have Dog in your chart, it forms a Clash and there’s a possibility of challenges and changes. Use this energy wisely for personal growth.

If you have Rooster in your chart, it forms a Combination that can soften challenges and support you.

If you have Dragon in your chart, it forms a Self Penalty, which can manifest in self-doubt and self-sabotaging behaviors. Be mindful of this so you don’t fall prey to these behaviors.

There is no Nobleman Star in Dragon.

Dragon Month Feng Shui

March 30, 2024 Helen Keating

This month’s Flying Stars are a duplicate of the Annual Flying stars, so the energy is doubled. The central Wood stars this month are very aggressive and can contribute to lawsuits and arguments. They control the heavy Earth of the Central Palace, which results in aggressive tension. If you are a wallflower, this can be helpful, but otherwise, it’s wise to dial back any excessive aggressive behaviors this month. If you’re an attorney, this energy will be supporting you this month. On a global scale, between the Dragon energy and this aggressive energy, there’s likely to be some fireworks.

Universally, the most supportive sectors this month are the East (future wealth) and Southwest (current wealth). There’s a lot of yin metal in the Northeast, which could support career/reputation under the right circumstances.

The least supportive sector is the West (misfortune). Don’t do any remodeling or earth moving in this sector this month and avoid this sector if possible. The South hosts a “fighting swords” configuration, which is indicative of violence and loss. If there is an exterior door or window in this sector be mindful of security.

This reading is universal, based on Annual and Monthly Xuan Kong. It does not take into consideration your home/business natal chart and how your personal trigram plays into the energetic mix. Rabbit Month Feng Shui

February 29, 2024 Helen Keating

March 5 - April 3 is ruled by the 4 Wood Star, which enters Earth and combines with the 3 Wood Star. This is a lot of Wood (growth) and it is controlling the resources of the Center Earth sector. At the same time, the Earth is holding onto the Wood, so you could say that growth and the aggression of the 3 Wood Star are contained. This can make your home feel a little claustrophobic but take advantage of the Spring weather to get out into nature as often as you can. This will not only clear your head, but will induce those happy hormones that you derive from spending time in nature.

The most supportive sector and the place where you want to do activities that pertain to your wealth and career this month is the North.

The Northeast sector is Earth hosting big and small Metal “fighting swords.” Unless you’re an attorney, going into a courtroom battle, or otherwise fighting for something important, this sector is not auspicious. Make sure this sector is secure as there could be issues with loss or accidents.

The East sector the 2 Earth is hosted by Wood and 1 Water. This is a clash situation and is also the energy of Mother controlling Son. So, the idea is that of an adult female rising above the younger male. If you are a mature female who can use the support of this energy in your work/career, then this is a good place to spend doing activities that relate to that. Just know that you may encounter or create tensions in your ascension over a male-dominated situation.

The Southeast sector (Wood), along with 2 Earth Star hosts 3 Wood. This is the energy of the Son fighting to break free of his Mother. The 3 Star is untimely, so it’s also known as the “argument” star. Since it’s being supported by a Wood sector, its energy is enhanced. So, if you are trying to find your independence, just know that once it’s done there’s no going back. Be mindful of how you use this aggressive sector since conversations could escalate into full-blown arguments.

The South sector (Fire) hosts the Annual 7 (Metal) and monthly 8 (Earth) stars. The 8 White is the “past wealth” star so it no longer has the same support for finances. It is also “smothering” the resources of Fire so resources are hard to access. Don’t waste time talking to or explaining to the wrong people. You’ll be slowing the process of freeing up resources.

The Southwest sector (Earth) hosts the Annual 9 (Fire) and Monthly 1 (Water). This combination is the equivalence of water feeding a fertile farmland. Wherever water, earth, and sun come together there will be a bountiful harvest. This is an especially good sector for those who are in the entertainment field and ecommerce to use to bring their art to the next level.

The West sector (Metal) hosts the annual 5 (Wu Wang) Earth and the monthly 6 White (authority) Metal. This enhances the energy of the 6 Metal and the combination with Earth further enhances it. However, not in a good way, since it creates a volatile energy. If you’re a leader in a crisis situation, this could be helpful, but otherwise, it’s better to avoid using this sector for activities that could create a volatile situation.

The Northwest sector (Metal) hosts the Annual 4 Wood, which reduces growth. The monthly 5 Misfortune star creates volatile energy that can spread uncontrollably. It’s best to avoid this sector altogether. We could see a lot of propaganda and tabloid-style sensationalism coming from the Northeast this month.

There are physical adjustments that can be made to help mitigate this energy. If you’re interested in having your home or workplace audited so you can receive the greatest support from your environment, please feel free to email me at HelenKstyles@gmail.com for more information.

March 2024 Month of the Yin Fire Rabbit

February 29, 2024 Helen Keating

Yin Fire Rabbit - Ding Mao 丁卯

The Yin Fire Rabbit is the 2nd month of the Yang Wood Dragon year. While the Yang Fire Tiger month was very lively energy, this month is less volatile as the Rabbit is much more cautious and gentle than the Tiger. Yang Fire is a blaze that spreads like wildfire, whereas Yin Fire is a candle in the darkness. The Rabbit signals the peak of Spring with the promise of new growth. Yin Fire Rabbit brings inspiration. It is the solitary candle that can light the candles of many others without extinguishing its own flame. Ding Fire Rabbit is not only inventive, progressive, and original, but it has a natural gift for words and can express ideas clearly. It can spot opportunities, think fast, and act fast. It is an intellectual powerhouse and a people person. Ding Fire can transform all the other elements and as such is the impetus for creative ideas that are forward-thinking and ahead of the times. Rabbit is a good mediator and diplomat. In Dragon Year, Rabbit can co-exist peacefully even through conflict. So, this month we may see the beginnings of leadership that ignites greater collaboration and lays the groundwork for a future that is more thoughtful, innovative, and cooperative. Alliances may be formed or strengthened in support of progressive ideas.

Other events this month are DST on the 10th, Summer Solstice on the 20th, and Lunar Eclipse on the 25th.

BaZi (Chinese Astrology) tips for Month of the Ding Fire Rabbit:

If you have Yang Water (Ren 壬) or Yin Water (Gui 癸) in your chart or were born in a year ending with 2 or 3, this is a Nobleman month for you. Look around you for helpful people in areas that you can use assistance.

If you have Rabbit in your chart, this a a 2-Penalthy month for you. This can negatively affect relationships, so be mindful of how you interact with those around you.

If you have Rooster or Yin Water in your chart, this is a Clash month for you. Depending upon where in your chart, it can predict obstacles, conflict, and change.

If you have Dog in your chart, this is a 6 Combination month for you, which can reduce clashes and overall make molehills out of mountains.

If you have Tiger, Horse, or Dog in your chart, this is a Peach Blossom/Flower of Romance month for you. You will be attractive to others, which can enhance your romantic or social life.

Those of you who have Dragon in your chart, keep in mind that this is a Self-Penalty year for you. Be mindful of self-doubt and self-sabotage in your day-to-day life.

February 2024 Month of the Yang Fire Tiger

January 31, 2024 Helen Keating

Gong Xi Fa Cai!

February 4 marks the beginning of the month of the Yang Fire Tiger (Bing Yin 丙寅), the first month of the Chinese Year. It also marks the beginning of the Solar Year of the Tiger (also known as Li Chun, the beginning of Spring). The Lunar Year of the Tiger begins on Feb 10 this year, but it’s the solar calendar that is the basis for the Chinese Metaphysical Arts. This year we also begin a new 20-year Time Period, which is ruled by the 9 Purple Fire Star. So this year the transition energy may feel a little chaotic because of all these changes…especially with the Fire of the new Lucy Cycle. For more about that, see my article on Era 9 HERE.

The Yang Fire Tiger (Feb 4 - Mar 4) is the first month of the Yang Wood Dragon year, bringing a powerful energetic shift. As this wave of energy moves in, hang on to the helm, hoist your sail, and steer your ship into the prevailing winds and waves of this high-energy year. What a way to give yourself a boost into the year! As we literally “spring” into a new year, be ready to use this energy to dynamically launch your projects.

Dragon and Tiger are opposing forces: Dragon is yang male energy and Tiger is yin female energy. Combined, they produce strong, assertive energy that can either lead to a harmonious connection or clashes of opposing egos. So don’t expect this month to be anything other than energetic, with a likelihood of opposing forces on full display. It will be your job to harness this energy and focus it productively. If you do this, you’ll reap rewards. If you don’t, you could get caught in the undercurrent of chaos. Make it your goal to use the chaos creatively and productively. Be the go-to problem solver and establish yourself for the coming months.

If you have MONKEY, RAT, or DRAGON in your chart, the Traveling Horse Star will promote travel and movement/changes.

If you have MONKEY in your chart this is a CLASH month for you. Considering the rest of the energy of this month and year, I suggest you find a way to use any setbacks to regroup and look for new ways to do things or a new path. Otherwise, you might want to just lay low until the dust settles.

if you have PIG in your chart, you will COMBINE with Tiger to act as a nobleman star and help calm the chaos. It will also cure any clashes in your chart.

If you have SNAKE AND/OR MONKEY in your chart you have a Fire Penalty that can affect relationships and health. If this is the case, be mindful of how you interact with others and take measures to improve your health.

if you have YIN METAL in your Day Master or were born in a year ending with a 1, this is a NOBLEMAN month for you. There will be helpful people when you need them, but you have to find them…they’re not likely to just knock on your door. Be of value to others so you can meet people who can be of value to you.

FENG SHUI

This month all the Stars are in their Home Sectors, which will produce double-strength energy, for better or worse. This month is ruled by the 5 Yellow Earth Star, which brings a malevolent energy of loss and sickness. Not only is this being doubled by the native star but fresh Fire energy of the 9 Purple star is feeding this element. Since this sector is the “core” energy of the building, it’s important to avoid activation of this area. If there’s a stair or other highly active area (like a kitchen), you might want to put a small plant here to help mitigate the unfavorable Earth.

The most supportive sectors this month are the NORTH, NORTHWEST, and NORTHEAST. Again, this speaks to a universal Feng Shui chart that doesn’t take into consideration all of the Stars in your house or workplace chart. If any of these are an entry to your home or office, it will support prosperity. Otherwise, use these areas when you are doing activities pertaining to your health or career, as you will be supported.

If you have questions or want to book a personalized Feng Shui and/or BaZi reading, you may contact me HERE or email me at HelenKstyles@gmai.com.

Year of the Yang Wood Dragon, Jia Chen 甲辰

January 31, 2024 Helen Keating

The year of the Yang Wood Dragon (Jia Chen 甲辰) begins on February 4, 2024. This is also known as the Li Chun or the beginning of Spring/Spring Festival. The Dragon is a mythical creature that is said to bring luck and happiness in Chinese culture. It’s the only mythical animal in the Chinese zodiac. All other zodiac animals come from nature and have their natural characteristics. In Chinese culture, the Dragon is a symbol of strength, health, luck, and authority/power. It is said to be the most powerful and egotistical of all the Zodiac Animals. In China, more babies are born in a Dragon year than any other because the Chinese tend to plan their children according to luck cycles, giving them the most advantageous luck.

This Yang Wood Dragon year has a very interesting BaZi chart. It is a completely Yang chart, so there’s a LOT of exuberant energy! Even though there’s a productive cycle in the stems, there’s evidence of conflict in the hidden branches. We can see hints of powerful leadership and overall high energy. This could indicate global conflicts and struggles. There is a lack of Water, the wealth element, which is only found in the hidden elements. This could indicate a global recession. All other elements are productive and rooted in the hidden elements, so this is a chart of bold energy. Hold onto your hats…it’s likely to be a heck of a ride!

The Wood Year is in a clash with the Metal Hour; the Tiger Month is in a clash with the Monkey Hour; and the Dog Day is in a clash with the Dragon Year. Some say that this is the worst annual chart in years due to all the clashes, which create chaos. But if you see a clash as an opportunity for growth and transformation, it could easily be viewed as the best chart ever! Yes, there are bound to be problems, but wherever there are challenges and obstacles, there’s growth if you work toward becoming part of the solutions rather than succumbing to the chaos. Obstacles often give you new perspectives and teach you new lessons. Very often, as they say, when a door closes, a window opens. It’s in times of difficulties and challenges that we are transformed and experience the greatest growth!

In this chart, the Heavenly Stems are in a productive cycle (wood - fire - earth - metal). This can help stabilize some of the chaos with “productive” processes. Another positive thing about this chart is that all the elements are present, even if a little lopsided in their degree of presence. This can be seen as positive. Even with a conflicting and complex chart, the Dragom is spirited, confident, enthusiastic, and intelligent. Surely, that energy will find a way to get through any obstacles in 2024. This is going to be a year of changes. We cannot stay in our comfort zones forever, and this is a year to stretch and reach beyond our comfort zones. With only a small amount of the wealth element, it’s a good idea to avoid frivolous overspending and make sure you have ample reserves. Of course, this will depend on how your personal chart interfaces with the year, but generally speaking, I recommend caution regarding high-risk endeavors. This may not be the best year to take unnecessary risks. Focus on your physical and financial health and stability, and be a problem solver not only for your own issues but those of your family, neighbors, friends, and community. This is also a good year to get a plan in place for the future and to find collaborators/mentors to help execute it.

The major Stars this year are:

Traveling Horse in year and hour indicates travel, changing position, and moving. Overall, changes or transitions. Also in the year pillar is the Tai Ji, which is a powerful nobleman. As you know, a nobleman indicates helpful people, so look around and reach out for the right people to help you…and BE a nobleman yourself. Collaboration is the key to success this year.

As always, there are also negative stars in each pillar, but if you focus on being the best version of yourself you can overcome any negative energy. The overall theme this year is to do whatever you need to do to improve yourself and others. Be the person with solutions rather than talking about all the problems in the world. Take care of yourself and those around you.

If you have DOG in your chart, this will be a CLASH year for you. But never fear, stay focused and be a problem solver and this could be a year that could change your life in a good way.

If you have DRAGON in your chart, this will be a year of SELF-PENALTY for you. Be mindful of how you think and speak of/to yourself. You may tend to self-sabotage so be mindful to avoid self-sabotaging behaviors.

If you have RAT in your chart, you will form a Water combination with Monkey and Dragon that will support wealth this year.

If you have HORSE in your chart, you will form a Fire combination with Dog and Tiger that will support overall luck this year. In the Tiger month (Feb) this will be doubled.

FENG SHUI

The Annual Afflictions are taking up a lot of real estate this year so be mindful about the areas of your home or business that you activate. The Grand Duke/Tai Sui is situated in the SE and just opposite is the Year Breaker/Sui Po in the NW. The Wu Wang/Malicious Star is in the W, and the 3 Killings/San Sha is centered on the S but it spans 75 degrees, which includes 15 degrees on either side in the SE and SW. This year there’s an optional Earth adjustment for the San Sha. This could be an earthen object or a small dish of sand, soil, crystals, or shells. Avoid any activation of these afflicted areas. No construction or digging in the soil. Keep these sectors quiet and tidy.

The best sectors for activity are the E, NE, and N. The Center is the core energy of the year, and this year the quarrelsome 3 Jade Wood Star has taken up residency. The Fire of the Prevailing Star will keep it at bay and reduce the chaotic energy of the Earth-Wood clash. You can expect a lot of energy from the 9 Purple Prevailing Time Star as part of the core energy this year. Just like the BaZi reading, you can expect a lot of bright, powerful energy swirling around you. Take measures to keep your home or workplace as serene as possible. Spend the bulk of your time in the more supportive sectors. Use the Grand Duke as support by sitting with your back to the SE when you are doing activities related to business or even having conversations. Even though the SE is afflicted, the Prevailing and Annual Flying Stars are in a configuration to support wealth luck.

In Feng Shui, we know that every building will have its challenges, and as the cyclical energy moves there will almost always be something that requires a solution. A traditionally trained practitioner can spot those areas and provide solutions. Areas of inauspicious or difficult energy can be mitigated through elemental adjustments. Areas where the energy supports life goals can be enhanced to provide maximum support. If you want to schedule a personalized Feng Shui and/or BaZi chart analysis for the year, you can either email me at HelenKstyles@gmail.com, or submit a contact form HERE. If you have further questions, please feel free to contact me. I’m always here to help in any way that I can. Wishing you a healthy, happy, love-filled year!

Enter A New 20-yr Time Period!

January 27, 2024 Helen Keating

The past 20 years have been ruled by the 8 Earth Time Star. 8 Era industries involve land (real estate developers, builders, architects/designers, etc), agriculture, building, and technology. It’s also connected to the young male. Consider the rise of the “Silicon” valley and people like Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and Mark Zuckerberg.

In the past 20 years technology has flourished. Remember that before 2004 much of the technology that we now have become so comfortable with didn’t exist or was in the very beginning stages. I remember the first home computers, internet, and cell phones of the 90s/early 2000s, which boomed in the past 20 years. Farming reached new levels of productivity with corporate industrialized agriculture and industries connected to it. Of course, the extraction and distribution of fossil fuels over the past 20 years has received a lot of publicity the past 20 years. Housing and land development have also been in the spotlight, reaching new heights and controversies during Era 8. It’s one of the more contentious issues of our time that the average person working a full-time job cannot house themselves and their families. Multiple families are now sharing housing and the number of unhoused has reached ridiculously high levels, particularly in areas where climate is more conducive to outdoor living.

Earth is damp and still. It doesn’t move as readily except when water is added. It’s considered “stable” and “grounded” but it’s also often stubborn and immovable. Mountains are immovable. Sand drifts, but slowly. That slow or immovable energy can be frustrating when we are trying to solve problems and move forward with solutions. We’ve seen slow progress in many areas of society such as human rights and our ability to wrest power from those who have too much influence on our global family.

ENTER the Fire era…ruled by the 9 Purple Fire Star, with bright, happy, expansive, passionate energy! It is the era of the middle-aged female, so we can expect to see more women in the spotlight and women in high positions of government. The last Fire Period presented the peak of the Victorian era. That was so influential in all aspects of life that we still have vestiges of it (i.e., Victorian architecture). It was a time of inventiveness and higher/abstract thinking. New inventions like the bicycle, typewriter, motorcar, moving film, steel, and the telephone made huge impacts on modern society as a whole. It was also the first time that more people were moving to and living/working in cities than in rural areas. There were new technological advances and advances in the education of children. There was a boom in the arts as well, including theatre, live music venues, and literature (Browning, Bronte, Dickens, Wilde). Even healthcare made great strides with people like Florence Nightingale worked with the English government to make healthcare facilities clean to reduce infections.

Fire moves quickly and expansively, versus the slow-moving and often immovable Earth. Some Fire-related industries are electronics, computers/IT, marketing, optical, e-commerce, psychology, designers, artists, military, healthcare, legal/consulting, firefighting, HR, department stores, hair salons/spas, and manufacturing. It also supports more ethereal thinking and spirituality (vs. religion). We could see a rise in practices such as meditation and mindfulness. Higher thought processes overcome stagnant and recessive ideas and ideals. We will likely begin to see the recessive attitudes that have been evident over the past 20 years in the rear-view mirror as we begin to move forward to a more inclusive and compassionate society.

We can expect to see a rise of women in important and influential jobs, as well as more access to services for women and women-owned businesses. The US will likely see its first female POTUS before 2044. We are already seeing a rise of women in governments around the globe and the patriarchy is likely to see a reduction in its pervasive presence and reach. Patriarchal religious and political organizations will begin to be replaced by more compassionate and humane ones. We hope to see a rise of the sacred feminine and human qualities of hope, kindness, level-headedness, and compassion. Wherever there are/have been matriarchal societies in the world, they live more cooperatively and compassionately. Let’s look forward to and support this energy to help heal our global family. We need the harsh patriarchal characteristics to take a back seat or go away entirely so we can live together in harmony and cooperation. Power is the root of all that is wrong with humanity. It’s time to use our ability to think, communicate, and work in cooperation to form a global society that looks after one another rather than leaving bodies in the wake of a struggle for power and possessions.

We are on the edge of a new, enlightened age…the ‘Age of Aquarius,’ as it were. New technologies could very well remove the centralization of the power of corporate industrialization and wealth. But the struggle will be real as the wealth hoarders and power mongers hang on for dear life to the influence they have dealt in the past. Now is a good time to dream new dreams and gather the people and mentors into a cooperative that can make those dreams come true. Social influencers are the future of networking so make sure you understand and use that technology as you build your business.

2024 Annual Afflictions

January 4, 2024 Helen Keating

Every year there are Four Annual Afflictions that can create a lot of havoc. These areas are particularly sensitive and shouldn’t be disturbed/activated by construction, digging, loud noise, high activity, or clutter. in the year of the Dragon, the annual afflictions are:

Tai Sui (aka Grand Duke) is located in the SE (specifically, SE1). This is the direction that’s occupied by the Dragon and it’s important to avoid any construction here. If your house sits in this in this direction, you should avoid all construction projects or digging in this area for the entire year. The reverberation of disturbing the energy can be harsh. The Grand Duke can be very supportive if you sit with your back to this direction, but never facing it, which is disrespectful of the Grand Duke.

Sui Po (Year Breaker) is located opposite the Tai Sui in the Northwest (specifically, NW1). Again, this is an area that should not be disturbed or activated. If so, it will have a ripple effect to the Grand Duke.

The San Sha (Three Killings) is centered in the South but actually takes up the space between SE3 and SW1. Keep this area tidy, quiet, and avoid construction. This year there’s an option to use Earth element (stones, crystals, sand, or soil in a bowl) to help calm the energy here.

Wu Wang (Catastrophic Star) is in the West. When disturbed or activated, this catastrophic energy can cause accidents, illness, and catastrophic losses.

Be cautious with the areas in and around the Four Annual Afflictions, since the repercussions from their energy can be very uncomfortable. Trifle with this at your own risk.

January 2024 Month of the Yin Wood Ox

January 4, 2024 Helen Keating

Jan 6 - Feb 3 is the month of the Yin Wood Ox and the 12th month of the Chinese calendar year. The Ox is an earth element, which is in a destructive cycle with wood. This creates tension. The Wood Ox is independent, self-sufficient, confident, courageous, and doesn’t seek the help of others. This may play out as a breakdown in collaborative efforts.

The Ox month is the transition month between winter and spring, so while we can feel the dormant aspects of winter, we will also get a glimpse of the new growth of Spring during the latter part of the month. Remember that the Solar Chinese New Year begins on February 4, which brings a whole new set of energy patterns. If you have not had a Feng Shui audit or update done on your home or business, this is the time to do it in order to prepare your spaces for these new energy patterns.

If you have Goat/Ram/Sheep or a Yin Metal stem in your BaZi chart, this is a CLASH month and you can expect to experience obstacles, challenges, and transitions this month. Depending upon which pillar is afflicted, it will affect you in different ways, either internally, or in your external world.

If you have Yang Wood, Yang Earth, or Yang Metal in your chart…or years ending with 4, 8, or 0…this is a NOBLEMAN month for you. Depending upon where the Nobleman Star is in your 4 pillars, there will be opportunities and helpful people.

FENG SHUI

This month is ruled by the 6 White star (Yang Metal), which supports career. It is hosted by the 4 Jade Wood Star, which is dominated by the metal star, creating some tension, especially with relationships and academics.

The most helpful sector this month is the West.

The least supportive sectors are the Northwest, Northeast, North, and Southeast.

Next month the dynamics of every building will change as a new cycle and a new year bring a massive energetic shift. Order your Feng Shui audit now to prepare your home or business space ready for this shift.

December 2023: Month of the Yang Wood Rat

November 29, 2023 Helen Keating

Jia Zi 甲子

The Rat Month (12/06/23 - 01/05/24) straddles the Gregorian calendar years. The Rat is the 11th month of the Rabbit Year. So, while Western calendars see us preparing for the end of 2023, this is not the case with the Chinese Solar Calendar, which still has one month left before the new year begins in February/Month of the Tiger.

The Wood Rat has strong principles and is well-versed in laws and regulations. It also exhibits high moral character and a high capacity for teamwork/getting along with others. This energy could be helpful in soothing some of the domestic and global conflicts.

If you have Horse or Yang Metal in your chart, this is a Clash month that could bring conflict, obstacles, and change. As I’ve mentioned before, a clash isn’t always negative. It can bring new perspectives that change your trajectory in a positive way. Nonetheless, it’s not a month that you want to take risks.

If you have Rat in your chart, it will form a Penalty that affects relationships, so be mindful of how you interact with others.

If you have Yin Wood or Yin Earth or were born in a year ending with 5 or 9, this is a Nobleman month for you. There will be helpful people around you who can assist you in whatever it is that you need.

Feng Shui for the Month of the Wood Rat:

This month is ruled by the aggressive energy of the 7 Red Star (Metal), which is fed by the prevailing 8 White Star (Earth) and in conflict with the 4 Green (Wood). So there’s some underlying turbulence in every building this month. It’s a good idea to keep the vibration high in your home or office and be mindful of the security of the building and finances.

The most supportive areas of your home or office would generally be in the North and West. The areas you should avoid activating would be the East.

Period 9 Transition:

We are in a time of transition and the energy is a little rocky as we transition from Period 8 to Period 9. The energy of the benevolent 8 White earth star is giving way to the strong and lively energy of the 9 Purple fire star. This transition is affecting the life cycle of the other stars so their energy is a little unpredictable. My advice is to try to keep everything on an even keel over the next couple of months until we have found a sure path within Period 9, which will come into its full strength in February 2024.

For those of you who have had your homes or businesses audited during the past 20 years, you’ll need a new audit to bring your home or business into harmony for Period 9. The natal charts are totally different since the life-cycle of the stars will change their energy and how they interface with the other stars. Please reach out for a new audit prior to February 2024.

Designing a Baby's Nursery

November 1, 2023 Helen Keating

This project was small but had a lot of details and moving parts. When designing a Nursery or a child’s room many people have a tendency to over-design, tipping into a “theme park” room that’s neither restful nor practical.

This room’s story (baby jungle animals) was originally inspired by a giraffe stuffy. We took that as a jumping-off point and we wanted to create a natural environment that would be a peaceful respite for bonding time between the parents and the baby. We opted for soft white walls and ceiling to keep the room grounded and calm. Too often people use large murals and bright colors that overstimulate the senses and then wonder why a child is restless and the parents are harried.

We decided that the inspiration and boldest design element would be the rug. I found the perfect RuggableJungle Safari rug as our anchor piece. This piece also provided a color palette for other soft goods and accessories. The Client had found baby animal prints and we opted for just 3 to use on one wall. All of the pieces in this space were selected according to the function of the space, keeping in mind how that will change as the child gets older. While it’s not likely that the child will occupy this room his whole life, it was also important to give thought to how adaptable the main pieces would be in another house. Often parents will purchase pieces that are only usable up to preschool, but these parents wanted to invest in heirloom pieces that the child could even take with him when he leaves home, should he desire to do so.

We discussed lighting in detail. It was important to have mostly low-key ambient lighting. The fiddle leaf fig tree was wrapped in twinkle lights to provide a “night light” and the table lamp was the only other lighting that was deemed important at this time. These mild lighting options, along with the blackout curtains, will create a serene and cozy space for mom/dad and baby for his first year. Although once he is crawling we will modify some things to make the space safer for a toddler.

The parents opted for mid-tone wood finishes for the main pieces from Pottery Barn. They weren’t all from the same collection, but they opted for the same finish. That way, it doesn’t look so much like a furniture store display as a curated set with different textures. While the bulk of the furnishings were new purchases we did reuse a bamboo bookcase that had been in another room to store the child’s books and a few toys. We included other finishes and textures to give the room more interest and three-dimensionality. The bed is a 4-in-1 that will later convert to a junior bed and then to a double bed. The oversized dresser has a changing table topper that will be removed when they no longer need it. We also purchased a bedside table to use later since they loved the style. So this room will go from newborn to middle school and beyond by simply converting the main pieces and updating age-appropriate art/accessories.

November 2023: Month of the Yin Water Pig

November 1, 2023 Helen Keating

Gui Hai 癸亥

The Pig Month (Nov 8 - Dec 6) is the 10th month of the Year of the Rabbit, and the 11th animal of the Chinese Zodiac. While Western culture tends to view pigs negatively, Asian cultures revere the Pig as a noble animal that brings prosperity.

The Pig Month, a water element, marks the beginning of winter. The Yin water of the Pig combined with the yin water of the month’s stem speaks of the deepest water of underlying currents. So, while there may not be the energy of “rapid water” this month, there are definitely some goings-on at a deeper level. The emotion connected with water is fear, so there is likely to be some deep undercurrent of fear being generated by the events on the world stage. The Pig sits in the Northwest sector, which is ruled by Yang Metal. This Metal will feed the energy of the Water elements.

The Clash this month is with the Snake, which sits opposite the Pig. Also, if you have Yin Wood in your chart you will be in a Clash. Clashes can produce obstacles and changes. This can manifest in pivotal life changes or just an opportunity to see things from a different point of view. Be mindful to avoid making rash decisions without thinking things through and don’t allow a setback or two to block your progress. It’s a good month to be very thorough and deliberate, allowing extra time and thought before taking a leap of importance.

If you have Fire (Yin or Yang) in your chart or if your birth year ends with a 6 or 7, Pig is your Nobleman. That means there will be helpful people available so don’t be afraid to reach out when you are in need of a helping hand, a healer, or a mentor.

If you have Pig in your chart, this is a Self-Penalty month for you. Be aware that you might suffer from self-sabotaging behaviors and self-doubt and take the appropriate actions against giving into this.

FENG SHUI

This month is ruled by the benevolent 8 White Star in the center sector, providing the overall energy of every building with a little boost of prosperity and benevolence. However, there is a clash of energy with the Wood Annual Star that can present tension or speed bumps along the way, so be mindful of that.

Illness and malicious energy rule the Northeast and Southwest, so it’s best to avoid these sectors, especially when it comes to matters of health, relationships, finances, and career.

The Southeast and South sectors will host some very aggressive energy and it’s best to avoid these sectors. Keep the Southeast sector secure since the presence of Fighting Swords can bring robbery and losses. Avoid conversations and communications in the South that could escalate into arguments or even lawsuits.

The West and North are the most supportive sectors of your home or office/business this month and you would do well to limit all important activities to these sectors.

Period 9: Period 8 Audits Will Be Obsolete

October 3, 2023 Helen Keating

Period 9 is starting its transition and will be arriving coincidentally with the Year of the Yang Wood Dragon on February 4, 2024. This is not business as usual when it comes to how the energy will be read for the next 20 years.

You’ve heard of the Flying Stars that are formed through calculations based on planetary movement. Each of the nine “Stars” is assigned characteristics based on Yin, Yang, and the 5 Elements/Phases. This is part of a shorthand that was developed thousands of years ago, after thousands of years of observation and tracking the natural cycles.

As discussed in last month’s article, there nine 20-year periods based on the movement and location of Jupiter. We are currently ending the 20-year period that is ruled by the 8 White Star. Since every star has a life cycle within the cycle, the 8 White is approaching a change in its attitude from “Prevailing Wealth” to “Past Wealth.”

The Prevailing Wealth Star in Period 9 will be the 9 Purple Star, which is currently considered “Future Wealth.” The 8 White will then be delegated to a Past Wealth status that will be somewhat diminished in energy, but it will still be usable and have a “good” nature.

Each Star will similarly be finding a new position in its life cycle, and with that there will be new interpretations of their energy and usefulness. Some will change profoundly. For instance, the 2 Black “Illness” star will have an entirely different set of characteristics that are favorable in Period 9. All because of where it will be in its life cycle!

These changes in characteristics will change the way the energy map/natal chart of your home or office is interpreted and adjusted. You may not have been keeping up with annual changes, but this is a critical juncture for how your home or office energy is affected.

I’ll be sending a notification to all of my current and past clients regarding updates for Period 9 and the Year of the Dragon. If you have never had your home or business audited, now would be a good time to do so. You can either respond to this newsletter or email me at: HelenKstyles@gmail.com

October 2023 Month of the Yang Water Dog

October 3, 2023 Helen Keating

Ren Xu 壬戌

Dog is the 9th month of the Rabbit year and is ruled by the Northwest. The Water Dog is the sweetest combination in Chinese astrology. It is kind, thoughtful, happy-go-lucky, generous, and selfless. If there is a “theme” for the Water Dog, it’s “family.” On the negative side, the Water dog is devastatingly, shockingly sensitive. So you can expect there to be some drama surrounding this ultra-sensitive energy. But Water Dog is also focused on building a strong foundation for the future. So it’s likely that this month will see planning and doing foundational work for a future that is more altruistic and caring.

If you have a Dragon branch or Yang Fire in your chart it will form a Clash this month. Clashes are all about change, which are often brought about by challenges.

The Dog month does not have a Nobleman star.

FENG SHUI

The Center sector this month supports academic/knowledge growth.

The sectors that are least supportive are the N, NW, and W, especially the N and W.

The sectors that are most supportive are the SE, S, and SW, especially the SE, and SW, which host stars that support wealth accumulation and career.

September 2023 Month the the Yin Metal Rooster

September 3, 2023 Helen Keating

Xin You 辛酉

The Rooster month (Sept 8 - Oct 7) in the Rabbit year is known as the Sui Po or Year Breaker. It’s the month that’s directly opposite the annual zodiac animal on the compass. The Rabbit occupies the East 2 position and the Rooster occupies the West 2 position. This creates energy known as Clash, which can bring change and challenge. So this month will most likely be one with ups and downs. The Yin Water of the year will wash over the Yin Metal of the month and make it shine. Since the Rooster is connected to pride, value, romance, talent, and beauty, these sectors and values will come to the forefront this month as the ambitious Yin Metal Rooster pursues perfection. There could be dramatic events this month as a result of the energetic interaction of metal and water combined with the flamboyant Rooster.

The Rooster month also marks the peak of Autumn, according to the Chinese calendar. And this year the Yin Metal core element of the Rooster is augmented by the Yin Metal Heavenly Stem. Yin Metal is associated with jewelry, as opposed to Yang Metal, which is associated with forged metal, such as in weaponry. Yin metal is more pliable and yielding while seeking perfection.

The Yin Metal Rooster (Xin You 辛酉) month combined with a Dragon in your chart forms a 6 Combination that basically cures any clashes and supports you through this month.

If you have a Rooster in your chart, this is a Self Penalty month for you. That means that you need to be mindful of any negative self-speak and self-sabotaging behavior.

If you have Monkey, Rat, or Dragon in your chart, this could be a great month for your social life as it forms a Peach Blossom with Rooster.

If you have Yin Fire or Yang Fire in your chart, or were born in a year ending with 1, this is a Nobleman month for you. Use this helpful energy wisely. Reach out for outside support/help for anything in which you may need assistance.

(If you want to schedule an analysis of your Bazi chart, contact me HERE)

Feng Shui Analysis for the Month of the Rooster in the Year of the Rabbit:

The universal Feng Shui Chart for September is ruled by the 1 White Star (career). It combines with the Annual 4 Green Star (academics, relationships) to enhance academic and relationship support. This is the most supportive area of your home or office this month and a great place for activities that pertain to relationships or academics. It’s also a good area for gatherings of friends and family. There is also a 10 Combination in the Southeast, which supports is supportive for all activities.

Sectors of concern this month:

Northwest: The most inauspicious sector since the annual 5 Yellow Malicious Star (Wu Wang) combines with the Monthly 2 Black Illness Star. Avoid activating this sector through activity. If it’s the location of your front door, use an alternate entry this month.

Southwest: The 7 Red Star (robbery, loss, violence) is hosted by the Annual 1 White. Since the SW sector (Earth) supports the 7 (Metal) and diminishes the 1 (Water), be mindful of security and be careful with knives or weaponry here.
